Wait, doesn't that make today Christmas?

Islamabad would like to wish Matt Barkley a very happy 19th birthday. Maybe today he'll shave for the first time.

But today isn't a day for making snide references to Barkley's youth. Nay, it's a time of quiet reflection and praise to God for the blessing he has bestowed upon us. We recall today the pilgrimage Barkley's parents made to one of the many early first-century stable replicas available in Orange County, how Barkley was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a football-shaped manger, and how his birth was announced by Angels to all college football coaches. And they came. Slowly, at first, but in a rush later, to see for themselves God's perfect football creation, the Chosen One, Matt Barkley.

And, most of all, we need to remember the Gift. For God didn't create Matt Barkely for his own amusement, he created him so that Barkley could destroy defenses week in week out for USC. And for that, we must praise God.

Hallelujah!
